It’s been proven time and time again that when women run for office, they win. There’s no doubt about that, especially considering women are 51% of the population. Women who run know that women who vote will have their backs. It’s getting them to run that seems to be the issue.
Which is what brings me to the question. Why won’t women run? I don’t just mean for Congress or the Senate. I mean for the local school board or city council. Maybe even Mayor or the state legislature. What's stopping them?
Christine Pelosi just may have answered that question on this week’s Womencount Radio show. Christine talked about a study done by Brown University which, found that while men will consider themselves a candidate for an open seat without any encouragement, most women need to be asked to run for office before they see themselves as capable.
Theoretically, there are thousands of qualified and capable women out there who are simply waiting to be asked to run. Ladies, the time has come. On behalf of Womencount, Christine Pelosi, and the rest of the female population of the United States, consider yourself asked.
If only everything could/would be in balance. Sigh.
